With curfew continuing during the evening hours and internet services remaining suspended in parts of West Garo Hills, the Meghalaya government is assessing how quickly the restrictions can be lifted as authorities closely monitor the situation on the ground following recent tensions in the region. The curfew and internet suspension were imposed as precautionary measures to maintain law and order and prevent the spread of misinformation.
Officials said the administration is reviewing developments and maintaining heightened vigilance in sensitive areas while evaluating the possibility of easing the restrictions once normalcy is restored. Security agencies have been keeping a close watch on the situation as part of efforts to stabilise the district.
Briefing the media on the prevailing situation, Deputy Chief Minister in-charge of District Council Affairs and Home (Police) Prestone Tynsong said the government would decide based on the pace at which conditions improve. “Right now curfew in West Garo Hills again continue in the evening but at the same time we will see how fast we will be able to lift the curfew and also to lift the ban on internet,” Tynsong said.
