SHILLONG, FEB 19: Batting for strict enforcement of the Meghalaya Residents Safety and Security Act (MRSSA), 2016, Opposition Trinamool Congress legislator from Dadenggre constituency, Rupa M Marak, on Thursday said effective implementation of the Act is key to addressing concerns over influx and illegal immigration, even as he pushed for extension of the railway line from Mendipather to Jengjal.
“There is always a concern for influx and illegal immigration, and since Railway is already been there till Mendipather, it can be extended (till Tura) since we are going for the implementation of MRSSA, 2016, so with the strict implementation of MRSSA, influx can be checked and it can be extended till my constituency Jengjal,” he said.
With Mendipather already connected by rail, the TMC MLA reiterated that extending the railway line further up to Jengjal would enhance connectivity and economic prospects in the Garo Hills region, provided that the Act is enforced rigorously to prevent illegal immigration and address concerns over influx.
