Shillong, July 17: As part of the Centre’s proactive push to strengthen development in the Northeast, Union Minister of State for Cooperation, Government of India, Krishan Pal Gurjar, on Thursday visited Mawlai Mawtawar in Shillong to inspect the progress of the Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM). The area, which falls under the ambitious rural water supply scheme, is witnessing substantial work in delivering tap water to households.
Satisfied after the inspection, the Union Minister said, “Every three months at least one central Minister visits North East to assess how the implementation of various centrally sponsored schemes are being done. At the same time which are the projects implemented in the state is being monitored by the Centre.”
He further added, “Today I have come to Shillong on a two days trip. We have conducted an inspection of JJM scheme, tap water supply to household, we have also observed that 40 lakh litre natural water resources is there. In the villages the water is being supplied from here. We have meetings lined up for next two days where we will study and deliberate upon the implementation of central government schemes in the state. I am happy to see the well implementation of the project.”
As per official data, the percentage of households with tap water connections in Meghalaya currently stands at 82.89 percent.
Later, the Minister attended a programme at Courtyard by Marriott, Shillong, where a series of presentations were made. These included a presentation on DONER Projects in Meghalaya, a presentation on the Cooperation Department, updates on MGNREGA and PMAY(G) in East Khasi Hills District, a presentation on the implementation of the JJM Scheme in East Khasi Hills, a showcase on Shiitake Mushroom Production in Shillong, and a presentation by the District Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Department.
