Is the BJP planning a reshuffle of the cabinet berth between it’s two legislators this September? Political circles are abuzz, and insider sources within the party seem to confirm the possibility of a cabinet berth swap between BJP legislators AL Hek and Sanbor Shullai. While there is no official document or written agreement to validate the claim, party insiders reveal the move could mirror the reshuffle strategy during the 2018–2023 tenure of the MDA-I Government.
When asked about the speculated reshuffle, AL Hek said, “Whatever the party decides I have no problem. The party decision is final to me.” However, he declined to disclose whether there exists any formal agreement between the two BJP MLAs regarding the portfolio arrangement.
The rumblings of change are not just confined to political corridors but have reached the state secretariat, where even fellow ministers are openly curious, asking if any updates are available.
As the Conrad Sangma-led multi-party cabinet completes two and a half years in office this September, all eyes are now on the BJP — will the ruling alliance witness a power shuffle that redefines internal equations, or will the suspense continue to grip the government benches? The NPP currently holds 32 seats in the 60-member House, while the total strength of the ruling coalition stands at 50 MLAs, including 12 from UDP, 2 each from BJP, HSPDP, and Independents. On the opposition side, the bench comprises 10 MLAs — 5 from TMC, 4 from VPP, and 1 from Congress.
