GHADC Woes Cast Shadow as NPP Hosts Grand Celebration for Late PA Sangma’s Birthday Celebration: Bernard

Tura MDC Bernard N. Marak has condemned the National People’s Party (NPP) for organising a concert on September 1 at Williamnagar to mark the 78th birth anniversary of former Lok Sabha Speaker, the late P.A. Sangma, alongside the party’s 13th foundation day.

Marak on Monday said the event was inappropriate, noting that “Had Late P.A. Sangma been alive, I don’t think he would have liked such a celebration. Rather, he would have gone to meet the employees of GHADC.”

While clarifying that no one objects to celebrating Sangma’s birth anniversary, Marak stressed that people were unhappy with the extravagant manner in which it was being held. He criticised the NPP for spending lakhs and crores on concerts while employees of the Garo Hills Autonomous District Council (GHADC) continue to suffer months of unpaid salaries.

Marak maintained that the day should have been observed with dignity and meaning, reflecting the values of the late leader rather than indulgence in costly entertainment.
