Multilevel car park opens near Secretariat to ease roadside parking of government and private vehicles

Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma on Friday inaugurated a multilevel car park facility developed under Shillong Smart City Ltd., located adjacent to the Additional State Secretariat in Shillong, aimed at addressing the growing challenge of roadside parking by both government and private vehicles that has been narrowing roads and disrupting smooth traffic movement in the state capital.

With a large number of offices situated in and around the Secretariat and Additional Secretariat buildings, vehicles parked along the roads have significantly reduced road width, aggravating congestion in the area. Constructed at an estimated cost of ₹6.5 crore, the facility can accommodate 58 vehicles at a time and is expected to decongest narrow city roads by shifting parked vehicles off the streets. The project is being viewed as an important milestone under the Shillong Smart City initiative and a step towards improving urban mobility and creating a more organised and efficient urban environment in Shillong.
