MP Nowhere in Sight as Son Caught Riding on Father’s VIP Privilege

It seems political perks now come with a “family pack.” In a no-nonsense crackdown on the misuse of VIP privileges, Ri-Bhoi Police intercepted a vehicle flaunting a VIP Flashlight — only to discover that the Member of Parliament himself was nowhere in sight.

The vehicle, bearing registration number AS 02 AM 6786, is registered to Rakibul Hussain, MP from the Dhubri Lok Sabha Constituency, but it was being used by his son Tanzil Hussain when police stopped it during a checking operation at Umling. Upon inspection, officers discovered that the VIP flashlight was being used without proper authorization, in clear violation of government protocol.

Leading the operation, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) V.S. Rathore, along with Ri-Bhoi District Police officials, immediately ordered the removal of the VIP light and imposed an on-the-spot fine. Rathore underscored that VIP symbols are not personal privileges but official designations attached solely to the officeholder.

Rathore, along with Ri-Bhoi District Police, sent a clear message — political privilege is not hereditary.

With biting precision, Rathore remarked, “Is the MP sitting inside the vehicle? If the MP is there, it’s a different case — but he is not. You are misusing the privilege. Has the entire family of the MP become MPs now?”

The message was loud and clear: the road to entitlement doesn’t come with a flashing light — at least, not anymore.
