TMC MDCs Allegedly Await Mukul Sangma’s Direction as Congress Eyes Political Revival in Garo Hills

As the Garo Hills Autonomous District Council (GHADC) elections draw near, Trinamool Congress (TMC) MDCs allegedly await a directive from Dr. Mukul Sangma, TMC Legislature Party Leader and former Chief Minister, expected by the end of November. Interestingly, the TMC MDCs have reportedly already made up their minds not to contest the GHADC elections under the party’s banner, with their next course of action likely to be determined by Dr. Mukul Sangma himself. Political observers say this forthcoming directive could prove to be a game-changer, potentially reshaping the power dynamics in Garo Hills.

With murmurs of a possible realignment already circulating, one or two TMC MDCs are reportedly preparing to switch allegiance to the Congress, while others remain in a cautious “wait-and-watch” mode, underscoring the party’s current strategic uncertainty.

“We are not going to contest the GHADC elections from TMC for sure, but that doesn’t mean we are leaving Dr. Mukul Sangma. We are waiting for direction from Dr. Mukul Sangma,” a TMC MDC revealed, highlighting the internal unease within the party.

Another MDC reaffirmed, “We will definitely get direction from Dr. Mukul Sangma,” while a third added, “We expect the direction from Dr. Mukul Sangma may come within November,” indicating that a decisive political move could be imminent.

Meanwhile, the Congress appears poised for a comeback in Garo Hills. Meghalaya Pradesh Congress Working President Deborah C. Marak has hinted that several MDCs from the TMC camp may soon cross over, signalling the grand old party’s renewed assertiveness and strategic mobilisation ahead of the polls.

With the GHADC elections on the horizon, the political stage in Garo Hills is heating up — the Congress is quietly consolidating, the TMC faces a strategic crossroads, and all eyes remain on Dr. Mukul Sangma, whose end-of-November directive could redefine Meghalaya’s political landscape.
