Meghalaya Govt Admits Large-Scale Infiltration Everywhere Across International Border, Directs Police to Nab and Push Back Intruders

Meghalaya Deputy Chief Minister Incharge Home Police Prestone Tynsong has acknowledged that illegal infiltration is occurring everywhere across the India-Bangladesh border, from East Jaintia Hills to Dalu, and confirmed that the government has instructed police to adopt a strict “nab and push-back” approach.

“…..quite a number of incidents that has happened including illegal infiltration takes place everywhere right from East Jaintia Hills upto Dalu side all along the International border between India and Bangladesh. That has been directed to all the SPs and DCs of each and every district, we are alert and I am very sure our police forces are able to nab and also to push back those infiltrators,” he said.

The deputy chief minister added that superintendents of police and deputy commissioners of all bordering districts have been instructed to be proactive. “……we had a review meeting with all the district heads, SPs, DCs of all the districts of the state of Meghalaya and instructions has already been given that they have to be more proactive.”

The state government has further instructed SPs and DCs to ensure such incidents do not recur. Reports have been submitted to the Ministry of Home Affairs by both the Meghalaya Government and the Border Security Force, underlining a coordinated effort to manage and control cross-border infiltration.
