The Meghalaya government has put all further action on hold regarding the Harijan Colony relocation as it awaits the High Court’s final order on the matter as the matter is subjudice. The long-drawn issue, which has stirred political, legal, and social discourse in the state, is now under judicial consideration, prompting the administration to exercise restraint and defer decision-making until the court pronounces its verdict.
“Regarding the Harijan Colony case, we have not had a meeting for quite sometime. The case is now subjudice in the High Court. We are waiting for the final order from the high court,” said Chief Secretary DP Wahlang, talking to Meghalaya News 24 on the status of the case.
“We will take cognizance of the High Court order and follow it in letter and spirit,” he added, affirming the government’s readiness to implement the court’s decision without deviation.
The Harijan Colony, located in Shillong’s Them Ïew Mawlong area, has been at the centre of a administrative tussle, with the state Government planning to relocate around 342 households to another suitable location.
