Meghalaya Chief Secretary D.P. Wahlang has confirmed that he is officially in the process of opening examining the much-anticipated report submitted by the Expert Committee on State Reservation. Tasked by the cabinet to lead the review, Wahlang stated that he is currently in the process of opening and studying the document, which has generated significant public interest across the state. He assured that the government remains committed to a timely response, with the summary of the report set to be submitted to the cabinet by August 31.
“So, we are now in the process of opening the report and studying it and we will submit it on time by the 31 of August,” Wahlang said, reaffirming the administration’s intent to meet the deadline.
The report, formally received by the Meghalaya Government on June 6, marks a crucial development in the protracted and often contentious discourse surrounding the state’s reservation policy. Amid heightened public expectations and political scrutiny, Wahlang has been entrusted by the cabinet to thoroughly study the report’s findings and recommendations.
“We received the report of the state expert committee on resolution on the 6th of June. And we have informed the members of the cabinet in the last cabinet meeting. It’s a bulky report that they have submitted and I have been tasked by the cabinet to study the report, and to submit basically the summary of the report by the 31st of August to the cabinet,” Wahlang said.
The Expert Committee was constituted to review Meghalaya’s current reservation policy framework, a subject that has sparked intense debate in recent months. With the document now in the hands of the state’s top bureaucrat, the focus shifts to the cabinet’s response once the review and summary are completed.
