Meghalaya Chief Secretary DP Wahlang in an exclusive interview to Meghalaya News 24 said that only the Voice of the People’s Party (VPP) has officially communicated its decision to not participate in the recently notified committee on railways. Interestingly, despite recent media interactions by opposition leaders, the Meghalaya government has received no official letter from the Congress regarding its stand on the state-level Railway Committee, while the Trinamool Congress (TMC) has yet to make its position explicitly clear.
“The committee on Railways have been notified. We have got letter also from one of the political parties that they are not interested to be part of the committee,” Wahlang stated, highlighting the response received so far.
Asked whether the Congress or the Trinamool Congress (TMC) had submitted any such letters, the Chief Secretary clarified, “We have received a letter from only one political party which is a regional party and others we have not seen any letter till now. May be when letters come we will see.”
When pressed for confirmation, Wahlang added, “Yes the letter is from VPP.”
With Chief Minister Conrad Sangma currently on tour in Garo Hills, the scheduling of the first meeting of the committee will be decided after his return. “So now Chief Minister Conrad Sangma is out of station and is on a tour to Garo Hills. When he returns back from Garo Hills then at call will be taken when to have a meeting,” the Chief Secretary said.
