When police move, the streets listen — even MLAs’ vehicles get checked. The power of Khaki reverberated across the highway, firm and unquestionable, as Ri Bhoi Police launched a full-scale late-night crackdown on traffic violations, reinforcing that no one is above the rulebook.
Under the leadership of Superintendent of Police V.S. Rathore, officers conducted an intensive inspection drive at Byrnihat, stopping vehicles with tinted windows, drunk drivers, and motorists flouting safety norms. An Assam Police vehicle using unauthorised fog lights was immediately challaned, while several private cars misusing “ARMY” stickers were detained. Even government vehicles faced strict scrutiny as the zero-tolerance operation continued through the night.
In a defining moment of accountability, the vehicle of Rajabala MLA and AITC leader Dr. Mizanur Rahman Kazi was also stopped. The MLA cooperated fully and praised the police for their fairness and professionalism.
“I keep following your page, very nice,” Dr. Kazi said.
During the operation, Cabinet Minister and Jirang MLA Sosthenes Sohtun arrived at the checkpoint, paused his journey, and personally lauded the team for their vigilance. He urged all motorists—locals as well as visitors—to follow traffic rules and avoid drunk driving to prevent tragic and avoidable accidents.
The Minister also noted that sustained enforcement by the Ri Bhoi Police has significantly reduced accidents along major highway stretches.
Across political lines, social organisations, the general public, and the media have collectively appreciated the fearless commitment of Ri Bhoi Police in making the highways safer.
