Shillong, June 23 — Reacting to a travel advisory reportedly issued by the United States government cautioning travel to Meghalaya, Deputy Chief Minister in-charge of Home (Police) Prestone Tynsong strongly refuted safety concerns, reaffirming the state’s status as a secure destination for visitors from across the globe.
Tynsong said, “I think it is very unfortunate that kind of advisories has been issued by the government of United States of America. I don’t know from where this report came in and from where they get this report, but I think it is very unfortunate.”
Reassuring tourists and stakeholders, he emphasised Meghalaya’s impeccable safety record, saying, “Let me clarify as far as Meghalaya is concerned, let me tell you one thing — that Meghalaya is the safest place, and this is being witnessed not only by us from Meghalaya but throughout India. Not only throughout India, even throughout the world — they witness this — that Meghalaya is in fact the safest place to come, to visit, and to spend their holidays.”
The Deputy CM’s statement comes amid heightened scrutiny over regional law and order, with state officials reiterating confidence in Meghalaya’s hospitality, peaceful atmosphere, and its growing reputation as a tourist haven.
