MDA government spokesperson Wailadmiki Shylla on Tuesday struck a cautious note over the Bharatiya Janata Party’s assertion that it would lead the government in Meghalaya by 2028, describing the path as “challenging” in a state where electoral outcomes are shaped less by party strength and more by individual political appeal, even as he expressed confidence in the continued public mandate for the ruling coalition led by Conrad K. Sangma.
“I don’t know because we have different perspective, so definitely for them,I don’t know, BJP has their own way of looking at it, but according to me, I think it’s it’s it’s I wouldn’t say it cannot be possible, but it is challenging, because especially in a state like Meghalaya, where we have seen that even right now even the two like members of BJP who are in the assembly, those even have won in their personal capacity. It’s not because of the party, because in Meghalaya, we have seen that it is not party politics, it is individual politics. So it’s depend that what candidate they are going to bring in .So I think that’s will matter more,” Shylla said, underlining the distinct electoral dynamics of the hill State.
Responding to whether the National People’s Party-led coalition viewed the BJP’s projection as a political threat, Shylla maintained that electoral outcomes ultimately rest on public mandate while asserting that the government’s development record remains a key factor shaping voter confidence. “In politics it is depend on mandate of the people. So I think what, from what I can understand and from what I have seen, I feel that the people still trusting us under the able leadership of chief minister Conrad Sangma and I think like, everyone cannot denied that the kind of development which is coming in this past few years under the leadership of our chief minister chief minister and both the deputy Chief Ministers, So I’m fully confident that people will definitely will be with us and we will keep us the opportunity to serve them even in the future,” he said.
