All India Congress Committee Incharge Dr. A. Chellakumar on Wednesday claimed that several leaders from the ruling party, NPP, had already expressed their willingness to return to Congress, and he indicated that over time, they would be admitted one by one. He added that while some MLAs had left Congress, the party was not dependent on individuals and remained confident in strengthening and rejuvenating the organization. He expressed certainty about winning the 2028 Assembly elections and also expressed confidence about the upcoming GHADC elections.
Talking to Media persons in Shillong, Dr. Chellakumar said, “Many people from the ruling party (NPP) they have already conveyed their willingness to join back to Congress party, so in the course of time one by one we will definitely admit them. Some of the MLAs might have left the Congress party, we are not bothered about it as the Congress party is not dependent on some individuals. So many senior leaders left the Congress but today where they are is a million dollar question everybody knows about it but we as Congress members and workers they are very confident to strengthen the Congress party, rejuvenate the organisation. We will win the 2028 Assembly elections. In between the GHADC elections is coming up which we are confident of winning.”
Asked when the leaders will be joining Congress, he said, “When time comes, everyone will be informed. Congress party always looks into the interest of the nation, nation first then the party, if someone realise their mistake if they really want to serve the people of the nation they are most welcome. But we are not here to purchase anybody like the other political parties. By accepting the principle of the Congress party anybody can join the Congress party.”
Dr. Chellakumar did not hold back in his criticism of the NPP Government, highlighting a growing public health crisis: “Today the situation of the state under NPP Government, the HIV affected people number has gone up unimaginable. It’s very shocking. One of the reason behind this is drugs menace and the government is not doing enough to control the drugs Mafia, instead of controlling they are also hand in gloves with the drugs Mafia. Any government is for the people as electing a public representatives is to serve them and also to look after their welfare. The government is looking at how to earn illegally to develop their wealth. By throwing money they are purchasing people and strengthening their Government. Now we will take up these issues.”
