With the Shillong Lok Sabha by-election approaching, the Meghalaya unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party has reported a notable rise in ticket aspirants, underlining the party’s early organisational preparations and internal consultations ahead of the electoral exercise. Meghalaya BJP State President Rikman G Momin said so far the party has as many as seven aspirants vying for the BJP ticket for the upcoming by-election to the Shillong Parliamentary seat.
Talking to Media Persons in Shillong, The state BJP President said, “We have a already seven aspirant candidates for Shillong Lok Sabha bye election, out of these, I will not names anyone may be still more to come. So we are preparing and we will after completing all the formalities, and after the instruction of the central leadership of BJP, we will be sending the proposed names. Let the central BJP leadership ask for that. We have already seven aspirant candidates, this time highest in number.”
The by-election has been necessitated following the demise of sitting Member of Parliament Ricky A. J. Syngkon on February 19, 2026, less than two years after his decisive victory in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. The State unit is expected to complete its internal processes before forwarding a panel of shortlisted names to the party’s central leadership, which will take the final call on candidature.
