Meghalaya Governor CH Vijayashankar on Monday told the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly that the long-pending boundary settlement process with Assam has begun taking visible shape on the ground, with 137 boundary pillars already erected as part of the implementation of the Memorandum of Understanding signed between the two states for six areas of difference.
Addressing the House on the first day of the budget session, the Governor said, “The process of demarcation of the boundary pillars is ongoing.”
Addressing the Assembly, Governor Vijayashankar said, “54 pillars have been erected in Hahim area and 83 in Gizang area.”
The installation of boundary pillars along the Assam-Meghalaya border is considered a significant administrative step towards translating the agreement between the two neighbouring states into physical demarcation on the ground.
Highlighting border security measures, the Governor further stated that “The State has also heightened security along the Indo Bangladesh border through close coordination with the BSF by boosting intelligence efforts and tightening surveillance.”
