Deputy Chief Minister and Home (Police) Incharge, Prestone Tynsong, has appealed to the public not to blame the government for every tragic incident, as police continue to investigate the suspected child’s murder in Shillong’s Nongrah case. “For everything, the state government should not be blamed,” Tynsong said, while reacting to the second incident of a suspected child murder in the locality.
He informed that a Special Investigation Team (SIT) led by the Superintendent of Police, East Khasi Hills, has been constituted to probe the latest case. “Police are on the job and very soon we will get the breakthrough in the case. We will be able to book the perpetrator,” he stated, adding that preliminary findings suggest it appears to be a murder case though the post-mortem report is awaited.
When asked about the recurrence of such incidents, Tynsong said, “As of now, you cannot blame the government because there are so many people—any issue happens, they blame the government. I personally feel that we need to also have proper education for the parents. They need to take care of the kids—why and how the kid disappeared.” He stressed that police are doing their best to ensure the safety of citizens but added, “As far as the criminal activities happen, I think you cannot say that the lapses happen because of the police force.”
Appealing to the public to remain vigilant, Tynsong said, “Let us also take care of our children or let us also be a little more preventive of ourselves because nowadays you really don’t know much what’s going to happen.” On CCTV coverage in the area, he said it forms part of the ongoing investigation and assured that “very soon we will be able to nab the culprit.”
As of October 9, 2025, Nongrah has witnessed two disturbing cases involving minors, including the deaths of a 7-year-old boy and a 4-year-old girl, both currently under investigation as suspected homicides.
