Tightening the noose in the investigation into the deadly blast at an illegal coal mine in Thangsko, East Jaintia Hills Police arrested two more coal mine owners, including a key accused believed to be the actual owner of the mine where the incident took place.
Police identified the prime accused as Process Dkhar @ Prakash, a resident of Sutnga in East Jaintia Hills, who is suspected to be the main operator behind the illegal mining site. The second arrested person has been identified as Tensing Suchiang of Umlawang village in the district.
Meanwhile, East Jaintia Hills Superintendent of Police Vikash Kumar informed that two other accused coal miners — Forme Chyrmang (36) of Jalaphet Pordung village and Shamehi War (42) of Sutnga Pohwailong village — were remanded to 14-day judicial custody by the court earlier.
The arrests come as part of the ongoing crackdown following the fatal explosion at the illegal coal mine in Thangsko, which has triggered widespread outrage and intensified scrutiny over unlawful mining activities in the region.
