A late-night road tragedy at Nongpoh on Tuesday turned fatal when a speeding KTM Duke motorcycle rammed head-on into a Guwahati-bound night bus, setting the vehicle ablaze and killing the biker on the spot.
Police said, “one motor cycle ML 05 Y3698 KTM Duke ride by unknown person who came from wrong side collided head on with one Night Bus bearing Rgn No AS 01GV3288 driven by unknown driver which was coming from Guwahati and proceeding towards Shillong.”
The crash occurred around 10.20 pm. The impact was so severe that the bus caught fire and was gutted within minutes. “As a result of impact, the vehicle caught fire and got totally burnt, the unknown bike rider (not identified yet) also died on the spot,” police confirmed.
A swift response by the Fire and Emergency team in Nongpoh prevented a bigger disaster. Firefighters doused the blaze quickly and all passengers were evacuated safely. No injuries were reported.
The body of the deceased has been shifted to Nongpoh Civil Hospital for post-mortem.
