SHILLONG — One of the prime suspects in the brutal murder of Indore tourist Raja Raghuvanshi, identified as his wife Sonam Raghuvanshi, will be produced before the court on Wednesday. Confirming this, East Khasi Hills Police source stated, “She is on a three-day transit remand and will reach Shillong tonight.”
Police further informed that the remaining four accused — Raj Kushwaha (allegedly in a relationship with Sonam), Vishal Singh Chauhan, Akash Rajput, and Anand Kurmi — are currently on transit remand and will reach Shillong on Wednesday.
Police said, their production depends on arrival tomorrow.
“The Indore party will be arriving tomorrow morning, Gazipur party will be here by late night (tonight),” Police Sources said.
The transit remand for Anand Kurmi is 6 days, while for Sonam it is 3 days. For the three other accused the transit remand is for 7 days.
“We will be producing them to the court tomorrow and thereafter we will be taking them to police remand for investigation, so that is the next course of action,” the Police Sources said.
All five accused will undergo initial interrogation in Shillong, after which they will be taken to Sohra for a reconstruction of the crime.
“After they come here then we will take a call when we will do the reconstruction of crime scene and probably after we have taken the first examination and all that, many levels of examination of the accused, then after we will be taking them to the crime scene for reconstruction of the whole thing,” sources added.
It may be mentioned that the post-crime movement details indicate that Sonam allegedly fled from Mawkadok to Shillong by taxi, travelled to Guwahati, and boarded a train to Indore. She claims to have reached Indore, but her precise travel trail is still under investigation, police noted. The other suspects reportedly took separate taxis to Guwahati before boarding a train to Indore, in what investigators suspect was a coordinated escape plan.
