As the demand for the Inner Line Permit (ILP) continues to remain unresolved at the central level, Meghalaya Tourism Minister Paul Lyngdoh has underlined the urgency of strengthening the state’s internal security framework in the interim.
“That has been an ongoing demand and it is also one major issue that has already been endorsed by the state assembly,” Lyngdoh said, reaffirming the government’s stand on the ILP.
Citing the prolonged delay in securing approval from the Centre, the minister stressed the need for immediate local measures. “It is still a relevant demand and at this stage I can only say that we should also strengthen a security mechanism because waiting for the clearance of the Centre on the ILP might take more time as it has already taken a lot of time,” he said.
He further added, “But meanwhile as I said we are upgrading and revising our SOPs and also we have the MRSSA which needs to be strengthened.”
