More than 200 students who secured letter marks in the SSLC Examination 2026 were felicitated during a felicitation-cum-awards ceremony held on August 7 and 10 at Siju St. John Secondary School and All Saints Secondary School, Rongara, South Garo Hills. Rongara-Siju MLA Rakkam A Sangma felicitated the students and awarded Rs. 5,000 for every letter subject, with more than Rs. 25 lakh spent on the awards. Sangma said the funds for the initiative were being provided from his salary and the Development and General (DG) Fund of the Assembly.

The initiative also extends to supporting schools in the constituency. Sangma has donated Rs. 5 lakh each annually to four schools towards the salaries of Higher Secondary Section teachers. The schools are St. Francis De Sale Higher Secondary School, Nongalbibra; Karukol Higher Secondary School; St. John Higher Secondary School, Siju; and All Saints Higher Secondary School, Rongara.
Sangma, a former Education Minister, has been giving the awards every year to recognise academic achievement, motivate students and encourage them to pursue higher education. The felicitation programme sought to acknowledge the efforts of students who excelled in the SSLC examination while encouraging more students to strive for academic excellence.
