In a strong pitch for the Meghalaya Residence Safety and Security Act (MRSSA), senior BJP legislator and Cabinet Minister AL Hek on Tuesday said the Act provides a robust mechanism to regulate influx into the state, rendering the demand for Inner Line Permit (ILP) unnecessary.
“We have a very good mechanism to bring the MRSSA that can control influx in the state of Meghalaya. It’s good for the tourists and is good for the local people,” Hek asserted.
Amid rising voices demanding immediate implementation of ILP, Hek reaffirmed his faith in the MRSSA, stating, “MRSSA mechanism is one of the good. Just try this — it will have great, immense help for the local people in the state of Meghalaya to control influx.”
He further added, “The subject is same — we want only to control the influx. If we have this mechanism, why we want the another mechanism? We empower home stay to check the influx.”
