The Meghalaya government has indicated that it may seek assistance from Central agencies, if required. A suspicious poster, purportedly issued in the name of the global terror outfit ISIS-K, was found pasted on an electric pole near the Law College, Araimile, Tura on Wednesday, triggering widespread panic across the Garo Hills after it warned the Garo community to vacate parts of West Garo Hills by 2027.
The poster, reportedly titled “Warning to Garos” and ordered residents to vacate areas including Tura, Phulbari, Rajabala, Tikrikilla, Selsella and Garobadha, claiming these locations as “their territory.” The name Aminur Islam appears on the poster, identifying himself as a “Plain Belt Area Commander,” a claim now under police scrutiny.
With security agencies launching an investigation to establish the authenticity and origin of the poster, Deputy Chief Minister in charge of Home (Police), Prestone Tynsong, said the state government would not hesitate to involve Central agencies if the situation so demands.
“Suppose now if the state investigation feel that yes it is also needed for central Government step in, we are ready to do that,” Tynsong said.
He added, “The investigation is underway. At this stage, it is too early to comment on whether opportunistic elements are involved. If necessary, the State Government will seek help from Central agencies.”
Assuring citizens that the matter is being treated with utmost seriousness, Tynsong informed that he has sought report from the district administration of West Garo Hills.
