Meghalaya Cabinet Hails Police for Sohra Probe, Mourns Ahmedabad Air Crash Victims

In a formal gesture of recognition, the Meghalaya Cabinet on Friday adopted a resolution to express gratitude to all agencies involved in resolving the recent Sohra tragedy, with special mention of the police department for their efforts in cracking the case that led to the death of a tourist. MDA spokesperson and Cabinet Minister Paul Lyngdoh said, “The Meghalaya Cabinet adopted a resolution to formally acknowledge and express gratitude to the role played by various agencies, government departments, and especially the police department in handling the tragic case which occurred at Sohra where there was a loss of life of one tourist.”

The Minister said the Cabinet appreciated the contributions of “all the stakeholders, especially those who were part of the rescue team which trekked and stationed themselves at Sohra for the past 15 days or so.”

The government also plans to meet senior police officials to extend formal recognition. “The Cabinet will also formally meet the officers like the Director General of Police and the team from the police department in order to formally pay respect and acknowledge the role that they have played in cracking the case,” Lyngdoh said.

He said that the government had already met the rescue team. “We met them at Sohra day before yesterday where we have also given them cash incentives along with certificates,” he said.

The Cabinet also passed a condolence resolution in response to the Ahmedabad air crash. “The Cabinet also today condoled the loss of about 290 lives in the air crash at Ahmedabad. We pay our tribute to all those who lost their lives and that includes passengers on board as well as the students of the medical college,” he added.
