The ruling National People’s Party (NPP) is sharpening its ticket-seeking calculus ahead of the 2028 Meghalaya Assembly elections, with Independent Rambrai-Jyrngam legislator Remington Gabil Momin’s de facto partisanship with the ruling party now set to culminate in a formal induction before the polls. Momin confirmed that he would join the NPP after receiving an assurance of a party ticket, a move that reflects the ruling party’s strategy of guarding its electoral turf by inducting sitting legislators with proven electoral winnability as it begins consolidating its position for the next Assembly election.
Confirming his decision, Momin said, “Before election I will join NPP. 2028 Assembly elections, I am planning to join NPP as according to our agreement, Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong, who is also the President of Meghalaya unit of NPP assured to give me ticket.”
Elaborating on the understanding reached with the ruling party, he said, “While NPP is looking forward to Winability in 2028, the Legislator said according to they have agreed to allot me ticket.”
Momin also pointed to his family’s growing association with the NPP, saying, “The MDC of the constituency is my nephew and he has joined NPP.”
Speaking about the electoral arithmetic in Rambrai-Jyrngam, he said, “The constituency has more Khasi voters although there are sizable number of Garo voters. I don’t think there is anti incumbency and I am not bothered. Once I am decided I am going to contest from NPP.”
