Amidst the unrelenting demand for Inner Line Permit, the long-standing aspiration for the inclusion of Khasi and Garo languages in the Eighth Schedule, and the protracted interstate border imbroglio that continues to test Meghalaya’s federal relationship with Assam, the Hill State People’s Democratic Party (HSPDP) has sharpened its political agenda with renewed vigour in the corridors of power. HSPDP legislator from Mawshynrut and newly inducted cabinet minister Methodius Dkhar underscored the party’s commitment to carry forward the vision of its founder, Late Hopingstone Lyngdoh, by pursuing the government on these core issues.
“The party as a whole we have a vision, the founder of HSPDP Late Hopingstone Lyngdoh, he had his vision since the inception of the party, that will be talking about….when we talk about inter state border issue that we are still facing, definitely as a party we will be working on this, we hope with this government we will be able to settle the issue that we are facing till now, secondly, when we are talking as a party as a whole we have been focusing and we wish to include our Khasi and Garo language in the eighth schedule, that is one of the issue that we will be persuing and then demand of the party about ILP since the beginning, this also another issue that we will be persuing as a party. These are the few things as a party we will be working and through this government we will try to push and voice it out whenever we get any chance and we have any opportunity,” Dkhar said.
Expressing gratitude to his constituents, he remarked, “I want to thank the people of Mawshynrut constituency as a whole and I would like to than the people of West Khasi Hills, I think West Khasi Hills for quiet sometime now we have not got an opportunity to be in the cabinet, and from Mawshynrut constituency almost more than 20 years, we did not get the chance to be in the cabinet. I hope with my induction in the cabinet, it will inspire the people of West Khasi Hills and Mawshynrut constituency.”
He further acknowledged the party leadership and added, “I want to thank the party leadership particularly the outgoing cabinet minister Shakliar Warjri for paving the way for my induction into the cabinet. I wish him (Warjri) all the best,” Dkhar said while assuring to work with him and the party as a team.
