The relocation of 342 Harijan Colony families from Them Iew Mawlong remains uncertain, with the Meghalaya government still in discussions with the Defence Ministry to finalize a new site. Deputy Chief Minister in charge of Urban Affairs Sniawbhalang Dhar on Friday said the government is in the process of identifying a few possible locations for the proposed relocation.
“We are on the job, and you will know when we decide,” he told reporters. On the ongoing talks with the Defence Ministry, Dhar confirmed, “The matter is still being discussed. We are still in talks with them.”
Acknowledging that the case remains sub judice, he said, “Yes, the case is still in the court, and we are doing our own job as a state government (to speed up the relocation).”
Expressing optimism for a negotiated outcome, Dhar added, “We want to decide mutually with the understanding, even though this matter is pending in court. Hopefully, we should be able to resolve it. Maybe we will take some time, but we are not sitting idle; we are on the job, and we are serious about this matter.”
