Meghalaya TMC Legislature Party Leader and former Chief Minister Dr. Mukul Sangma said he was in the dark about the move by his brother, former Rangsakona legislator Zenith Sangma, rejoining the Congress, asserting that political lines have now separated the brothers in the political landscape. “We can speak as brothers, not as politicians now,” he remarked, signalling the shifting family dynamics amidst changing political loyalties.
“Well, I was not told, so he has not told anybody. Whatever he has decided, he has decided on his own. Everybody is important, it is irrespective of who he or she is; therefore, every individual is important,” Dr. Mukul Sangma said, striking a note of composure amid the political turbulence.
Acknowledging that building a new party comes with challenges, Dr. Sangma stated, “There will always be challenges, as I have told, when we are building a new party and then, at the same time, if somebody after having long innings in politics decides something, you have to understand that he is responsible enough to take his own decision.”
“The only thing is that, as I am telling you, I was put in the dark as he has never told nor has hinted. So, in his own wisdom, he must have decided — that’s all that you can have from me now,” he said.
When asked whether the brothers have drifted apart politically, Dr. Sangma remarked, “How can I comment on this? How do I know what’s in his mind? He has decided not to talk to me before going, so at the moment I have not spoken — why should I speak now?”
Maintaining a tone of guarded diplomacy, he concluded, “We can speak as brothers, not as politicians now, because I have to keep my card close to my chest, not exposed to him since he is in another camp. That’s how political dynamics unfolds. If you are taking your decision based on your own choice, I have to presume that one has used his own wisdom.”
