With rising instances of illegal immigrants from Bangladesh being detected in Meghalaya over the past few months, the Confederation of Meghalaya Social Organizations (CoMSO) has issued a strong directive to its member bodies, warning of a likely surge in infiltration due to Assam’s ongoing eviction drives.

“There is every likelihood that illegal immigration of people from Bangladesh and from Assam may surge in the next few days also as more and more people may attempt to seek refuge into our State,” CoMSO Chairman Roy Kupar Synrem stated.

Calling the situation urgent, Synrem instructed member organizations to remain vigilant and initiate proactive measures to prevent the settlement of illegal immigrants in the state. He stressed that eviction drives must be carried out regularly in mining areas, construction sites, urban slums, factories, industrial zones, market areas, and border belts to ensure immediate detection and deportation of unauthorized settlers.

“Kindly treat this as ‘top priority’ at the moment to ensure that our demographic integrity is not affected,” Synrem urged.
