Charles Pyngrope Confirms Zenith Sangma’s Exit, TMC Faces Leadership Setback in Meghalaya

Meghalaya TMC President Charles Pyngrope, while confirming the resignation of Vice President Meghalaya Unit of TMC Zenith Sangma, said any registration from a senior member of the party is always a setback. “Yes Zenith Sangma has resigned. An official letter has been communicated to the office of the President, that is me. It seems that due to personal reasons.”

With Zenith M. Sangma’s departure, only James Lyngdoh remains as the party’s vice president. Asked if TMC is a sinking ship, Pyngrope asserted, “Not exactly, we are five members in the house and as of now in the Assembly, we still remain the same, however, where non-MLAs are concerned we will have to look further into our cadre base and perhaps appoint some other person to fill up the post of the vice president.”

“As always any resignation from a senior member of the party is always a setback, we cannot keep quiet about setback and do nothing, the party has to move forward and we have to take every step to ensure that the party is moving forward,” Pyngrope added. “For me the leader that left the party is Zenith Sangma, leaders who have held positions in the party and the leader who has had official communication with me.”

Reflecting on TMC’s struggles in the Khasi and Jaintia Hills, Pyngrope acknowledged, “As president I have tried my best and to give some shape and direction to the party and if I have not fulfilled my duties to the expectation of the people then I guess that’s the most I can do.” The party now faces the critical task of rebuilding its leadership and recalibrating its strategy in the hills amid rising political uncertainties.
