Bernard N Marak Hails Meghalaya Government’s Landmark Review Meeting on Agreed Text

Bernard N Marak, the leader of the ANVC breakaway faction, BJP Vice President, and MDC from Tura, said the meeting with Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong and other State officials was “very satisfying” as it was held after six to seven years and lasted over three long hours. “Comprehensive discussion was initiated para wise and the State explained the initiatives and implementation of the Agreed Text from their level while the signatories sought clarifications on various issues including Medical College, Captain Williamson State University, formation of new Districts and Blocks which were also part of the Agreed Text,” he added.

Marak said the GHADC bail-out package was also discussed, with the Government assuring to speed it up with strict adherence to the Agreed Text. Other matters deliberated included upgradation of existing Civil Hospitals in District Headquarters, ITIs, Polytechnics, Engineering College, and Horticulture College, along with filling vacant posts in Government colleges. Usage of Forest funds, Rural Local Bodies, and Urban Local Bodies funds was also reviewed. The existence and role of Village Councils were clarified by Deputy CEM of GHADC and acknowledged by the Deputy CM and other officials present.

The meeting also confirmed that airport works would resume, road construction would be accelerated, and the 125th Amendment would be pursued under the leadership of Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma. District-level Nodal Officers were appointed for coordination at State and District levels, and the signatories will physically verify ongoing and completed projects to ensure transparency and accountability in implementation.
