Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma has apprised the Ministry of Home Affairs and the Intelligence Bureau of a disturbing cross-border intrusion in the South West Khasi Hills district last week.
According to the Chief Minister, a preliminary probe indicates that the infiltrators were likely a gang of dacoits who slipped across the international border. Investigating agencies are now working on multiple leads to uncover the full extent of the incursion, its motives, and potential links to larger criminal networks.
Meanwhile, in a major security directive issued by Meghalaya Government that underscores the state’s uncompromising stance on cross-border crime, the Meghalaya Government has instructed every Superintendent of Police (SP) and Deputy Commissioner (DC) in all bordering districts to remain on high alert and act with unwavering proactivity. Deputy Chief Minister Incharge Home (Police) Prestone Tynsong said in the wake of an alarming string of incidents — including illegal infiltration “everywhere right from East Jaintia Hills up to Dalu side all along the International border between India and Bangladesh” — as Tynsong alleged that mastermind behind the recent South West Khasi Hills border breach, involving an explosive attack, is suspected to have already crossed over into Bangladesh.

Of course our police force along with the BSF are in close touch and then jointly we are working out how to get that main accused who has in fact thrown that explosive over there.”
Clarifying intelligence inputs, the Deputy CM said: “As per the report from the police officers over there, it’s about the criminal activities, nothing beyond that, in fact their intention is very clear — to rob and also some kind of criminal activities intention. One of the main suspect we are still searching and it seems he already crossed back to Bangladesh.”
Issuing an unambiguous caution, he stressed: “I don’t say cop or no cop, but I say Bangladeshi people created this illegal activities and therefore, instructions has been given SPs and all the DCs to be more proactive to ensure that such incidents doesn’t repeat again.” He further confirmed that a comprehensive report has already been submitted to the Ministry of Home Affairs “not only from the state government side but even from the BSF,” ensuring that central authorities remain fully apprised of Meghalaya’s evolving border security dynamics.
