Meghalaya Sees Rising Support for SIR

With less than two years left for the Assembly elections in Meghalaya, calls for the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) by the Election Commission of India are gaining traction across the State, with political parties and social organisations voicing support for the exercise. Amid this growing consensus, Meghalaya United Democratic Party legislator from Nongpoh constituency, Mayralborn Syiem, on Monday said the Special Intensive Revision of the Election Commission of India is very important and the exercise should be carried out in the State.

Speaking to mediapersons in Shillong, Syiem said, “SIR is a comprehensive exercise that has been taking place in all over India. There are political parties who welcome, there are political parties who oppose, we are free in a vibrant democracy but as a concern citizen, it is very important that we should conduct SIR. I’m of the view that we should have SIR.”
