Meghalaya tightens vigil along inter-State borders ahead of Assam polls: Tynsong

With heightened political activity surrounding the upcoming Assembly elections in neighbouring Assam, the Meghalaya government has stepped up inter-State coordination and security preparedness, particularly along vulnerable border districts, to ensure peace and prevent any spillover effects.
Deputy Chief Minister in charge of Home (Police) Prestone Tynsong on Friday exuded confidence in the security apparatus, asserting that proactive measures are already in place to safeguard residents on both sides of the border during the electoral process.
“Security will be ok, we will make sure that people of our state are safe are peaceful and security will be always there and I am very sure even from Assam side, these people will be also secure and will be okay,” he said.
Emphasising administrative coordination, Tynsong said the State government has activated a district-level communication mechanism to closely monitor the situation along inter-State boundaries. “We have already instructed all the deputy commissioners to be in touch with their counterpart in all the districts especially in the border area of the interstate,” he added.
The assurance comes amid routine concerns over cross-border movement and law and order management during elections in neighbouring States, with authorities aiming to maintain stability through coordinated vigilance and real-time information sharing.
