Mukul Sangma Demands Re-Examination of Police Recruitment Test, Cites Violations and Public Distrust

SHILLONG, 5 June 2025: Leader of Opposition and former Chief Minister Dr Mukul Sangma has called on the Central Recruitment Board (CRB) of Meghalaya Police to declare the written examinations conducted under the police recruitment process null and void, citing widespread concerns among candidates and violations of recruitment norms. Dr Sangma said he will be formally writing to the CRB to demand that the written examination for various posts be re-conducted.

“The process must be declared null and void as far as the written examinations are concerned and candidates must be called to write the exams afresh,” he stated, referring to the recruitment process advertised on March 6, 2024.

He said the concerns are rooted in direct feedback from candidates and observations shared publicly on social media platforms. Stressing the need to uphold transparency and legal standards, Dr Sangma pointed out that all parameters during recruitment must align with the prescribed guidelines and the Meghalaya Police Act, 2010.

“Whenever an advertisement for recruitment is given, all the parameters required to be followed must be in sync with the set guidelines and the Meghalaya Police Act, 2010,” he said.

Dr Sangma highlighted Clause 18(10) of the general instructions, which specifies that “candidates will be summarily rejected at any stage for not conforming with the rules and guidelines and legal action will be initiated.” He argued that a recent press release from the CRB appeared to contradict this provision and had triggered widespread public debate.

According to him, “the content of the press release had become a matter of debate, and narratives circulated are not pleasant to read, reflecting the doubt of the people of the State on the fairness of the process.”
