Tynsong Directs Contractor to Complete Shillong–Dawki Road Package One by December 2025

In a bid to fast-track one of Meghalaya’s most crucial infrastructure corridors, the State Government has directed the construction company handling the Shillong–Dawki four-lane project to complete Package One on or before December this year. Deputy Chief Minister in-charge PWD, Prestone Tynsong, asserted that deadlines must be adhered to and assured that other packages of the project are also progressing steadily.

“I had a review meeting of Western Bypass as well as Shillong Dawki Road project. As far as Shillong Dawki Road project starting from Package one, two, package four, package five, the progress of work is good. As far as the package one, though lot of inconvenience has happened due to construction of the four lane but today we have done the review meeting, a detail review meeting along with the construction company and lot of debate and discussion and ultimately we have given the direction to the construction company to complete the work on or before December 2025. So they have already assured us that they will be able to complete the four lane project within December this year,” Tynsong said.

The Deputy CM further noted that Package Two, delayed by the monsoon, will pick up momentum as the working season begins next month. “I am very sure even the package two will be complete within the targeted date which they have already kept up to the end of December 2026. Same way with the package four and five and I am sure we will be able to meet the targetted deadline as made by the NHIDCL along with the construction company who have undertaken this project,” he added.

On the Western Bypass, Tynsong admitted that land disputes continue to hinder progress but insisted that they will be resolved expeditiously. “Yes, few issues were there around five six of them. Small small stretches of land where the claim counter claim of land is still happening. I have given direction that both the Deputy Commissioners Nongpoh as well as Shillong to resolve the issue at the earliest possible. The progress of work is satisfactory and I am sure next year 2026 the West Bypass will be completed,” he affirmed.
