Shillong, June 26, 2025 — In a significant breakthrough, two cadres of the banned Hynniewtrep National Liberation Council (HNLC) surrendered before the Superintendent of Police, Eastern West Khasi Hills District, at Mairang on Thursday morning.
“In a significant development, today the 26th June, 2025 @10:30 AM, the below noted Hynniewtrep National Liberation Council (HNLC) cadres surrendered themselves before the Superintendent of Police, Eastern West Khasi Hills District, Mairang,” stated the official police communiqué.
During the preliminary interview, authorities revealed, “both the cadres disclosed that they were misguided by Samuel Wahlang Pahsyntiew, who is wanted in connection with Shillong Sadar Police Station Case No. 80(03)2024 U/S 120(B)/121A/307/324 IPC R/W Section 10/13/16/18 of UA(P) Act and Section 3(a)/3(b)/5/6 of Explosive Substance Act (Shillong Syndicate Bus Stand IED Blast Case) to join the HNLC and together all fled to Bangladesh.”
The duo further admitted they “were associated with the HNLC and were assigned to perform menial tasks, including cultivation-related tasks, which according to them was far-fetched from the cause of the organisation’s propaganda.”
Disillusioned by over 15 months of discontent under senior HNLC leadership, they decided to escape. “As they were disillusioned and dissatisfied with the tasks assigned to them for more than 15 months in the hands of the senior cadres of HNLC, they decided to run away from Bangladesh on the 20th June, 2025, with an intention to return to the mainstream of society and have sincerely regretted joining the proscribed HNLC,” the statement continued.
“The surrenderees have been interviewed, their statements recorded and they have been placed at a secured location pending further necessary action,” police added.
The surrendered individuals were identified as Dibarius Jyrwa (32), son of (L) Ti Ryntathiang, and Ridor Lyngdoh Nonglait (30), son of (L) Charles Lyngdoh, both hailing from Eastern West Khasi Hills District.
