Opposition All India Trinamool Congress in Meghalaya on Monday released its first list of 14 candidates for the April 10 elections to the Garo Hills Autonomous District Council (GHADC), with two of its sitting MDCs seeking re-election.
The list was approved by the Pradesh Election Committee of the Meghalaya Trinamool Congress at its meeting held on February 23, 2026, after examining and discussing the applications submitted for the GHADC polls. The announcement was signed by Meghalaya TMC state president Charles Pyngrope.
Party sources said the committee scrutinised the recommendations of the Election Selection Committee and, after taking into consideration all inputs, cleared the first batch of nominees. Significantly, two sitting MDCs have been renominated, underscoring the party’s bid to retain its existing foothold in the council.
The candidates named in the first list are: Silkigre – Changseng R. Marak; Rongrikimgre – Witerson M. Sangma; Babelapara – Richard Mrong Marak; Tura – Dimseng K. Marak; Dengnakpara – Hilthudhera Ch. Marak; Boldamgre – Batchot Ch. Marak; Betasing – Hemendra Hajong; Asanang – Rahendro A. Sangma; Raksamgre – Lithson B. Marak; Jengjal – Badith T. Sangma; Bolsong – Asish R. Marak; Damas – Perdinand D. Shira; Sanandagre – Baseng N. Marak; and Williamnagar – Alphonsush R. Marak.
