As the political corridors of the Northeast buzz with the formation of a new regional front under the banner “One North East,” Senior NPP leader and Meghalaya Deputy Chief Minister Snaiwbhalang Dhar asserted that the party’s core symbol and legacy remain untouched. Reiterating the NPP’s distinct political standing, Dhar informed, “NPP symbol book will remain, our Election Symbol is book and it will remain,” effectively quelling rumours of any change in the party’s insignia or structure.
Dhar further further said, “Party don’t have any confusion (with regard to this propose regional move), nothing is changing, time will come then you will know everything, it’s not appropriate to tell you.” He clarified that the NPP continues to be a steadfast constituent of the BJP-led North East Democratic Alliance (NEDA).
His remarks came against the backdrop of a potentially game-changing political development, where a coalition of regional leaders unveiled an ambitious plan to form a unified entity named “One North East.” The initiative, spearheaded by Meghalaya Chief Minister and NPP chief Conrad K. Sangma, TIPRA Motha founder Pradyot Bikram Manikya Deb Barma, former Nagaland minister Mmhonlumo Kikon, and Assam’s People’s Party founder Daniel Langthasa, seeks to redefine the regional political matrix.
The leaders, while addressing a press conference in the national capital, announced the constitution of a committee tasked with drafting the blueprint and modalities for the proposed political outfit within 45 days — a move widely seen as a bid to consolidate indigenous political strength under one regional umbrella.
