NPP Sounds Poll Bugle in Garo Hills, Begins Groundwork for GHADC Elections with Resubelpara Resolution Drive and Sengbath R Marak’s Endorsement in Williamnagar

In a politically charged move to consolidate its foothold ahead of the GHADC elections, the National People’s Party (NPP) has activated its organisational machinery across the Garo Hills, with the regional committee meeting at Resubelpara emerging as a key flashpoint for strategic mobilisation. Simultaneously, the party has thrown its weight behind Sengbath R Marak, whose nomination for the Williamnagar GHADC seat was unanimously endorsed, setting a precedent for other constituencies to follow.

Meghalaya State Working President in-charge of Garo Hills, Marcuise N Marak, declared, “It is my duty bound to move around and talk to the party leaders, I have been having several rounds of meetings, we had a regional committee meeting at Resubelpara where we have taken several resolutions and directed the district committees of NPP to have regular meetings and asked them to know their MDC candidates from the respective MDC constituencies. Also identify the opposition who will be the right opposition, the next opposition with us. So these are the few exercises that I have started doing.”

The Resubelpara conclave, which brought together district NPP presidents, secretaries, and leaders from the women, youth, and farmers’ wings, has set the tone for pre-election groundwork in North Garo Hills. By galvanising grassroots cadres, the regional leadership aims to ensure that each constituency steps up its preparatory efforts, with an eye on opponent mapping and ticket finalisation.

“I have different rounds of meetings. Last week I had a meeting of my own constituency also Williamnagar GHADC constituency block committee meeting wherein we have unanimously supported the nomination made by the Block party president Roson M Sangma, he had proposed Sengbath R Marak name and everyone has accepted him and will be nominating his name to the party high command for giving him a party ticket to contest from Williamnagar constituency. This initiative was to push other constituencies to take positive steps to decide for the party candidates,” said Marak, hinting at an internal domino effect designed to hasten candidature finalisation.

The party’s electoral calculus now hinges on its newly reconstituted regional committee, spearheaded by Marak himself. “We have constituted regional committee headed by me, this regional committee compromises of district NPP Presidents, Secretaries and also the frontal wings like women and youth wings presidents and secretaries, now we have farmers front also we are including the district farmers front secretaries and presidents in the regional committee meeting.”

Revealing the phased strategy, he added, “In Resubelpara we had regional committee meeting to kick off kind of a meeting atmosphere in North Garo Hills district, so after the regional Committee meeting they have organised a general District committee meeting where in four constituencies part leaders have come to attend in Mendipathar. Very shortly we will have another round of regional committee meeting where we will be constituting the election committee and once the election committee is constituted we will notice out for the candidates to apply for the party tickets and the process will start. The election to the GHADC next year.”

As the NPP accelerates its electoral readiness through structured committee formations and constituency-level interactions, its Garo Hills offensive is poised to set the tempo for a high-stakes GHADC showdown.
