Meghalaya Congress Leader P. N. Syiem Resigns from Party, Working President Post

Meghalaya Congress state leader P. N. Syiem on Tuesday resigned from the post of Working President of the Meghalaya Pradesh Congress Committee and from the primary membership of the Indian National Congress, citing dissatisfaction with the response of the party’s central leadership to concerns raised from the state.
In a resignation letter addressed to K. C. Venugopal, General Secretary of the All India Congress Committee, Syiem said he had waited extensively for the party high command to respond to the opinions and aspirations of the people of Meghalaya regarding a change in party leadership in the state and the need to revamp the organisation from the state level down to the primary units.
“After waiting extensively for the AICC leadership to act and respond to the opinions and aspirations of the people of Meghalaya, regarding the change of party leadership in the state, and revamp the party organization at the state up to the primary unit level, but it has become clear that the central leadership at the high command is more focused on criticizing the central government rather than listening to the vital opinions of its own members and the public,” the letter stated.
Announcing his resignation with immediate effect from March 10, Syiem said his decision was guided by the sentiments of the people of Meghalaya as well as his personal conscience.
“Therefore, in accordance with the voices of the people of Meghalaya and most importantly, my own conscience, I hereby tender my resignation from the post of Working President of the Meghalaya Pradesh Congress Committee and from my primary membership in the Indian National Congress effectively from today, the 10th March 2026,” he wrote.
