The Garo Hills Autonomous District Council will go to polls on April 10, with counting of votes scheduled for April 14, 2026, following a decision taken by the Meghalaya Cabinet on Monday to finalise the election calendar.
Informing the media, MDA Government spokesperson Wailadmiki Shylla announced the detailed schedule for the upcoming MDC elections.
“The date for calling the constituent to elect their representatives under rule 124 (2) is 9th March 2026. Last date for filing of nomination is 16 March 2026 before 3 pm. Date of scrutiny of nomination paper it is on the same day that is 16 March 2026 after 3 PM. Last date for withdrawal of nomination will be on 17 March 2026 till 3 PM. DATE FOR finalisation and publication for valid nomination and allotment of symbols will be on 18 March 2026. Date of poll will be on 10 April 2026 from 7am to 4 PM and the date of counting will be 14 April 2026,” Shylla said.
With the announcement, the stage is set for a high-stakes electoral contest in the GHADC, with political parties expected to intensify campaigning across the Garo Hills region in the coming weeks.
