Shillong, Oct 15 — A late-night robbery attempt near Laban’s Last Stop area took an unexpected twist on Tuesday when two helmeted men were overpowered by locals after their getaway motorcycle plunged into a roadside drain along the Oxford–Last Stop road.
The victim, who requested anonymity, said the incident occurred when the duo stopped him, claiming to be from Mawlai, and demanded to see his identity card. “Moments later, they tried to snatch valuables from my jacket pocket,” he said.
As the man resisted and raised an alarm, nearby residents rushed to his aid. In a desperate bid to escape, the suspects lost control of their motorcycle, skidding into a drain. Locals immediately apprehended the duo before the police reached the spot.
Police have seized a Yamaha RX motorcycle without a number plate and a knife suspected to have been used in the crime. Both suspects are now in custody, and an investigation into the attempted robbery is underway.
