Shillong, August 19: In a major anti-narcotics operation, East Jaintia Hills District Police on Tuesday arrested one man from Assam and another from Tripura, who were travelling to Shillong in an MTC night bus, and seized a huge consignment of narcotics from their possession.
According to the Superintendent of Police, East Jaintia Hills, “Based on credible intelligence input, the Anti-Narcotics Task Force of East Jaintia Hills District Police conducted a coordinated naka operation under the jurisdiction of Lumshnong PS in the early hours of 19th August 2025. These apprehended drug suppliers are suspected to be part of a larger organised crime syndicate.”
Police said the naka was set up after credible information was received on the night of August 18 about two suspects travelling clandestinely from Silchar, Assam to Shillong. Around 4 AM on August 19, the naka team intercepted the MTC bus (B/R No. NL 03 0222) near Lumshnong and arrested the duo identified as Shri Amol Nath (42 years), son of Shri Suresh Nath, resident of Sundari Part-III, Silchar, Cachar, Assam, and Shri Radhika Rajhan Das, son of Late Ranjit Das, resident of Eamonchora, Komalpur PS, District Dholai, Tripura.
“In the presence of independent witnesses, a search was conducted under Section 50 of the NDPS Act, during which 10.35 KGs of Marijuana, 2,736 Tramadol Hydrochloride capsules, 6000 Nitrazapem tablets and 2 mobile phones were recovered from their possession. Accordingly, a case has been registered at Lumshnong Police Station under the NDPS Act, and investigation is underway to establish backward and forward linkages,” the Superintendent of Police stated.
Police have launched further investigations to track the wider syndicate, suspected to have cross-border and inter-state linkages.
