Meghalaya Tourism Minister Paul Lyngdoh on Tuesday announced that the government has begun the process of identifying and securing vulnerable tourist zones, starting with Sohra. “The government has already asked the Sohra Tourism Association to submit a list of areas which they consider vulnerable. Once the list is furnished to us we will immediately start acting,” Lyngdoh said.
Clarifying that the initiative is based on local input, Lyngdoh added, “Based on the request Sohra Tourism Association will made to us, those numbers will only come to us once they submit the formal requirement.”
Responding to whether the plan is specific to Sohra, the minister stated, “We will go phase wise but everything will be demand driven meaning wherever there are maximum footfall they will get first chance to have Security Cameras in place.”
