East Jaintia Hills Deputy Commissioner Shivansh Awasthi on Monday said he will seek a report from the police after unverified claims emerged from Thangskai village alleging that three coal labourers were buried alive in a rat-hole mine collapse. The reports, still unconfirmed, have renewed concerns over illegal and abandoned rat-hole mines that continue to dot the district despite a ban imposed in 2014.

Responding to the circulating claims, Awasthi said, “Yes will ask report from police.” He further stated that “No such complain or info received in my office.”

Police authorities have also maintained that there is no confirmation of any such incident so far.
