Conrad Keeps Cards Close to Chest Amid Buzz of Cabinet Reshuffle; NPP Insiders Await CM’s Call

Amidst intense political murmurs swirling through Meghalaya’s corridors of power, speculations of a major cabinet reshuffle have sparked ripples within the ruling National People’s Party (NPP). The grapevine suggests that three to four NPP ministers may face the axe, but the ultimate call remains tightly guarded by Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma, who has so far maintained a stoic silence, neither confirming nor denying the imminent shake-up.

Asked, Meghalaya State Working President Incharge of Garo Hills, Marcuise N. Marak, while speaking to Media persons said, “Regarding reshuffle of cabinet I don’t know anything about that. It is the prerogative of the Chief Minister. I will totally accept what he decides and it is up to him. We will look forward to him. I, as a party State Working President Incharge of Garo Hills, am very happy where I am put to work.”

While brushing aside any anxiety over the reshuffle, Marak underlined his commitment to grassroots party mobilization, stating, “I have been moving around with party meeting.”

On being queried about the recent huddle between the Chief Minister and Garo Hills MLAs, Marak clarified that the meeting was not politically motivated but rather an introspective session, saying, “It was kind of a presentation from all the MLAs which CM has sought, and every MLA presented their activities and the way they are implementing the MLA scheme. CM was satisfied. It was in a way to get an account from the MLAs.”

As anticipation builds and political temperature rises, insiders suggest that the reshuffle—if it materializes—could redefine intra-party equations and send a clear signal ahead of the GHADC and Lok Sabha polls. Until then, the NPP’s top brass remains on standby, as CM Conrad Sangma plays his cards with calculated silence.
